Terms of Service — Still Eyes

Welcome to Still Eyes (“Still Eyes,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our website, pages, and related features (collectively, the “Service”).

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Important: Still Eyes is an opinion-based, informational project. It is not law enforcement, a tip line, or emergency services. If you have credible information about a missing person, contact local authorities immediately.

1) What the Service Is (and Is Not)

Still Eyes presents case-style profiles (which may include fictional sample/demo cases and/or curated public-interest content depending on the deployment) and allows users to:

view profiles (“Cases”),
vote on whether they believe a person is Alive or Unalived (suspected deceased),
view vote tallies,
read “Author Predictions” and commentary (opinion/speculation).

The Service:

does not conduct investigations,
does not verify or validate user conclusions,
does not provide professional, legal, medical, or investigative advice,
does not replace law enforcement or official missing persons resources.

2) Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you represent that you have permission from a parent or legal guardian.

3) Your Account (If Applicable)

If the Service later offers accounts, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account. We may suspend or terminate accounts for violations of these Terms.

4) Voting, Tallies, and “Local” Storage

4.1 Voting is Sentiment, Not Truth

Votes reflect public sentiment and are not statements of fact. A vote does not prove anything about a case.

4.2 Local Device Storage

Some versions of the Service may store votes, bookmarks, and preferences in your browser (e.g., via localStorage). This data generally stays on your device unless we explicitly state otherwise in our Privacy Policy.

4.3 No Manipulation

You agree not to manipulate votes or attempt to artificially inflate tallies (e.g., via scripts, bots, automation, or repeated voting across environments).

5) Author Predictions Are Opinion Content

“Author Predictions” are opinion-based commentary meant to provide narrative context and analysis. We do not guarantee accuracy, completeness, or outcomes. You agree not to treat predictions as official conclusions or actionable directives.

6) Community Standards and Prohibited Conduct

You agree to use the Service respectfully and legally. You must not:

Harass, threaten, shame, or target families, witnesses, or any person connected to a case.
Engage in doxxing or sharing sensitive personal information (addresses, phone numbers, workplaces, school locations, private social profiles, etc.).
Encourage vigilantism, stalking, intimidation, or any form of real-world harm.
Upload, post, or distribute content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, exploitative, or invasive of privacy.
Impersonate any person or misrepresent your identity or affiliations (including law enforcement).
Use the Service to organize or promote scams, fraud, or misinformation campaigns.
Use bots, scrapers, or automation to access the Service in a way that harms performance or circumvents limits.
Attempt to hack, probe, or reverse engineer the Service, or bypass security controls.

We may remove content, restrict access, or ban users for any violation or behavior we reasonably believe is harmful.

7) Tips and Urgent Information

7.1 Not a Tip Line

We are not equipped to receive or process time-sensitive tips. Do not submit emergency or urgent information through the Service.

7.2 Contact Authorities

If you have credible information about a missing person, contact:

local police or emergency services in your jurisdiction, and/or
relevant official missing persons agencies.

8) Intellectual Property

8.1 Our Content

The Service, including our design, layout, graphics, text, branding, and “Author Predictions,” is owned by or licensed to us and is protected by intellectual property laws.

8.2 Limited License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.

8.3 Restrictions

You may not copy, reproduce, sell, distribute, publish, or create derivative works from the Service content without our written permission, except as allowed by law.

9) User Content (If the Service Accepts Submissions)

If we allow you to submit comments, messages, or other content (“User Content”):

You represent you have the right to submit it.
You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute your User Content solely for operating and improving the Service.
You remain responsible for your User Content.

We may remove User Content at any time for any reason, including violations of these Terms.

10) Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy. If there is a conflict between these Terms and the Privacy Policy, the Privacy Policy governs privacy-related issues.

11) Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR ACCURATE.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY INFORMATION, PREDICTION, OR COMMENTARY WILL MATCH REAL-WORLD OUTCOMES.

You use the Service at your own risk.

12) Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL STILL EYES OR ITS OWNERS, OPERATORS, CONTRIBUTORS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE.

IN ALL CASES, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED $100 USD (OR THE MINIMUM AMOUNT REQUIRED BY LAW, IF GREATER).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations. In that case, those limitations apply to the extent permitted.

13) Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Still Eyes and its owners/operators from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising out of or related to:

your use of the Service,
your violation of these Terms,
your violation of any law or third-party right,
your User Content (if applicable).

14) Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you violated these Terms or used the Service in a harmful manner.

15) Changes to the Service or Terms

We may update the Service or these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date. Your continued use after changes become effective means you accept the updated Terms.

16) Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the courts located in United States, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
